The Benefit of Building in Public

Key Highlights from the Discussion

ACE's Journey into Tech and Building in Public

ACE, a full-stack developer with over six years of experience, kicked off the discussion by sharing his journey into tech. ACE had access to a computer from a young age, which sparked his interest in HTML and CSS. His curiosity led him to explore further, and with the support of like-minded roommates, he delved deeper into the world of tech. The constant challenge and innovation within the field kept him motivated.

ACE's introduction to Web3 came about two years ago when he was already well-versed in frontend and backend development. His encounter with blockchain technology piqued his interest, and he began learning Solidity. However, it wasn't until later that he started building in public.

Initially, he hesitated because he wasn't sure of his abilities and wanted to perfect his skills before showcasing them. But he soon realized that in the tech world, there is always someone who is already doing what you are doing, often in a more sophisticated way, and they are sharing it with the world.

He mentioned that building in public became necessary when he understood the value of sharing his progress and solutions with others. ACE emphasized that if you're working on something phenomenal, you must tell people about it, especially if you don’t have a marketing budget. He also highlighted the benefits of learning in public, using the 100 Days of Code challenge as an example. And he mentioned that by consistently showing what you're working on, you stay visible and create a lasting impact on your audience.

Emmy on the Motivation Behind Building in Public

Another speaker, Emmy, shared how building in public validated his work and brought him recognition. He recalled how making the right noise on Twitter led to someone reaching out with a gig, proving that building in public works.

Emmy explained that building in public saves you the trouble of constantly proving your work speaks for itself. It boosts your confidence by providing social proof and allowing others to see your progress. Moreover, building in public creates opportunities to ask for help when you're stuck, fostering a supportive community around your work.

Micky Dev's Path to Building in Public

Micky Dev, a frontend developer with a passion for design, shared his motivation for starting his journey in tech. His love for design naturally led him to explore web development, and about two years ago, he began attending tech events and joining communities.

It was there that a friend advised him to start putting his work out there. Micky realized that he needed to share something publicly if he was creating something. This advice pushed him to build in public, and he soon discovered that it brought numerous job opportunities and valuable feedback.

Micky emphasized that building in public isn't just about showcasing your work, it's about inviting people to join your journey. He also mentioned that by sharing your progress, you gain exposure and build a community that grows alongside you.

Unusualweb3girl on the Benefits of Building in Public

Our co-host, unusualweb3girl, added to the discussion by highlighting the significant benefits of building in public. She mentioned that one of the most valuable aspects is the access and connections it provides.

By showing up consistently and sharing your work, you create opportunities for yourself that might not have been possible otherwise. She shared her experience of growing her Twitter following from 300+ to 700+ in just two weeks by taking her online presence seriously and showing up daily.

She also pointed out that building in public isn't just about personal growth; it's about building a brand. When you build in public, you're not just doing it for yourself, you're creating a brand that others can recognize and engage with.
